ANITA LIPNICKA HARD LAND OF WONDER

5 March 2010, 8.00 pm
Columbus Audiohall at the Sheraton Hotel in Sopot

After 7 years of working exclusively with John Porter, Anita has come back on the music scene with a solo album, all written and sung in English, scheduled for Polish release on 13 November 2009. “The concept was very simple: I wanted to construct a really emotional bomb using minimal means of expression,” enigmatically states the singer.” It’s all about love – the blessing and the curse of it all . It turns out that having a family or being in a happy relationship doesn’t guarantee you piece of mind, doesn’t save you from heartache. No matter how committed we are, we’re just separate human beings, with our dreams and desires boiling on...”

Eleven songs that make up this very personal and intimate album called Hard Land Of Wonder are a treat for enthusiasts of sophisticated and unconventional acoustic sounds. Piano, double-bass and subtle percussion serve as a core of the project and they are artfully complemented by a sensitive set of colours created by other instruments such as dobro, weissenborn, pedal and lap steel guitar, banjo, trombone and string quartet.

For the first time in her career Anita is the exclusive author and producer of the whole album; she also accompanies herself on piano and some other instruments. To record the album she invited musicians from England who she’s wanted to work with for a long time. Credits include Ali Friend on double bass (Beth Orton, Red Snapper, Clayhill), Danny Cummings on drums (George Michael, Simply Red, Bryan Adams), Melvin Duffy on various string instruments (Gomez, Robbie Williams) and Charlie Casey on electric guitars and keyboards (Nenah Cherry, Akasha) . The album was engineered by Cameron Jenkins (Everything But The Girl, Badly Drawn Boy, The Verve) and was recorded between February and August this year in various studios in England, including Peter Gabriel’s legendary studio Real World.

In her career, Anita Lipnicka has sold over 2 millions albums! This makes her one of the most successful and influentional artists in the history of Polish music.
